Kotor (MINA-BUSINESS) – The Kosmaj Ship belonging to Jugooceanija from Kotor and anchored in Venice could have been sold in Kotor for 2.1 million U.S. dollars and instead it was sold for 1.6 million in Venice, chairman of the company#s trade union Petar Idrizovic said on Saturday. Idrizovic said the lower price resulted from great pressure exerted by ITF international trade union of seamen, a court and a number of creditors. Additionally taxes for anchoring the ship in the Venetian port amounted to 500,000 dollars, while the ship crew collected four monthly wages although they had not worked during that period, he said. There had been no official information on the price or the buyer of the ship, which was sold on Friday, and Idrizovic could not tell if Jugooceanija would get any money. "The buyer is probably a company from Monaco, although there had been offers from Greece," he said. Accurate details on the transaction were expected to be known on May 2 when the crew returns to Kotor. The company is expected to put on sale its two remaining ships Novi and Orjen, under the pressure of the trade union. Jugooceanija owes to its employed workers more than 2.2 million dollars. Idrizovic said the company had been led to the verge of collapse due to mismanagement and that Jugooceanija could have been saved with a new management and a soft credit of around 15 million dollars to purchase four new, quality ships.
