Complaints on the Law on VAT in Parliament by Middle of February

Complaints on the Law on VAT in Parliament by Middle of February
Podgorica, (Montena-business) - Proposal of alterations and amendments of the Law on Value Added Tax (VAT), which is being prepared by directors and chiefs-in-editors of daily and periodical newspapers in Montenegro, would probably be sent to the Parliament by middle of February, states the Montpress. Director of this association, Mr. Drasko Djuranovic, said that with this proposal they would demand freeing of all Montenegrin Newspaper Companies from paying the VAT. "Preparation of alterations and amendments is underway and we will probably complete them by middle of February and direct it to the Parliament for discussion. After that, we will start a campaign in daily newspapers with articles that would inform the public about possible consequences" said Mr. Djuranovic. He reminded that at the round-table meeting organised by Montpress on January 25, it was concluded that the VAT was #lethal# for majority of medias, mainly because the tax rate of 17% would be applied on import of roto-paper as well. It was also concluded that it was unacceptable for independent medias to pay VAT, since the state-owned newspaper #Pobjeda# got DEM 4,6 million from this year#s Budget of the Republic, while the estimated effect of VAT on all other newspapers was about 600,000 DEM. On the basis of this data, it was concluded that the state practically collected tax from all independent medias in order to finance its own. Directors and chiefs-in-editor of all daily and periodical newspapers as well as presidents of newspaper associations participated at this meeting. dc/km
