Dinar convertibility eases household sector transactions

Dinar convertibility eases household sector transactions
Podgorica (MINA-BUSINESS) – The convertibility of the Yugoslav dinar will enable the exchange of the currency in Montenegrin banks and payments towards Serbia via the post office, chairman of the council of the Central Bank of Montenegro (CBCG) LJubisa Krgovic told a press conference on Friday. The Article 8 of the statute of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), which the Yugoslav central bank had obliged to comply with following the declaration of the dinar convertibility, means liberalisation of the foreign exchange market in Serbia, current account transactions, freedoms to repay foreign credits and repatriation of profit. "Compared to the article previously implemented, the Yugoslav central bank obliged itself to liberalise international payments of the household sector," Krgovic said. As far as Montenegro is concerned the euro currency will remain the sole legal tender in the republic, because the agreement on relations between Serbia and Montenegro does not envisage any changes in the current state of affairs in the monetary sector. Krgovic said any Montenegrin bank interested in exchange dealings with the Yugoslav central bank (NBY) could make commercial arrangements with NBY and the CBCG would not interfere with these activities. Krgovic said the launch of the dinar convertibility marked the beginning of hard work to maintain it over a long period, because it would depend on the balance of payment, Serbia#s budget deficit and the strength of its economy.
