May 20 - Workers at the Trebjesa brewery from Niksic launched on Monday a general strike over the management#s refusal to sign a collective agreement that would clear path towards higher salaries. May 20 - The Tender Commission of the Privatisation Council of Montenegro decided on Monday to offer for sale shares of three hotels via an international batch sale tender. The offer will include 34.81 percent of shares in the hotel Albatros from Ulcinj, 39.36 percent of shares in the hotel Mimoza from Tivat and 33.09 percent of shares of the hotel Primorje from Tivat. Buyers can gain a controlling stake through recapitalisation, after previously having met a business plan. May 20 - The production of electricity between January and May 19 was 28.2 percent below planned and nearly two times below the last year#s level, the power company Elektroprivreda Crne Gore (EPCG) said. May 21 - The value of a food basket for a four-member family in Montenegro cost 233.82 euros in April and was 1.0 percent more expensive than in March or 18 percent more expensive than in April last year, the statistics office said. May 22 - Mayor of Herceg Novi Djuro Cetkovic awarded on Wednesday all public transport licences in the town to Autosaobracaj, because the company had offered the best bid. The decision was contrary to the proposal of the municipal transport committee which wanted to award one of five licences to Admiral. Autosaobracaj has for years been the sole public transport provider in Herceg Novi. It has a fleet of 45 buses and its own garage. May 22 - The Federal Republic of Yugoslavia received last year from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development 233 million euros for seven projects. The money represented 6.4 percent of the bank#s loans. According to EBRD#s report, the bank invested in 2001 3.66 billion euros. May 23 - Shareholders of the Prekookeanska plovidba shipper said the introduction of a new ship to service the route Bar-Bari-Bar was an example of violating the established system on transport between the two towns, which could affect the business activities of the company. Prekookeanska has serviced the line since 1965. May 24 - Representatives of foreign companies expressed on Friday interest in investing in the power and tourism sectors in Montenegro, at a conference held under the name Privatisation and Other Business Opportunities in Yugoslavia, chairman of the Montenegrin Privatisation Council Veselin Vukotic said. May 24 - Trade union of the Trebjesa brewery has turned down every single proposal of a collective agreement laid down by the management. "We strongly believe that the behaviour like this puts into question the future of the brewery, its workers and their families," the management said in a statement. The management also invited workers to resume work on May 27, saying that it hoped that the workers would not allow the collapse of Trebjesa.
