Podgorica (MINA-BUSINESS) – Between 1998 and 2001, Montenegro received a total of 196 million euros worth of aid from the European Union, a third of which was spent on various reconstruction works in the republic. According to the European Union#s Association for Reconstruction, Development and Stabilisation, Montenegro received 40 million euros in humanitarian assistance and 20 million in macro-financial aid. More than 21 million euros was spent on food, and 3.74 million on the development of democracy and improvement of human rights. EU and other donors spent 201.5 million euros on non-humanitarian aid to Montenegro between 1999 and 2001, of which 84 percent came from the United States. Germany, the U.S. and the European Investment Bank spent 26.7 million euros on the development of transportation in Montenegro. Some 1.2 million euros came from Great Britain for economic development and nearly as much for social programmes from Denmark and Spain. The World Bank spent 2.0 million euros on environment projects. Spain donated 300,000 euros for the power sector while the government of Montenegro and its institutions received a 200,000 euro donation from Great Britain. No money was donated for the agriculture and health sectors.
