Financial organisations trade union calls for withdrawal of the labour law
Podgorica (MINA-BUSINESS) - The committee of the independent trade union of financial organisations asked on Monday for the withdrawal of the draft labour law but conceded that it did not violate the minimum workers# rights that are guaranteed by international conventions. "The current proposal is restrictive in relation to regulations we had so far but we have to note that it is adjusted to the provisions on the pact on economic, social and cultural rights and does not exceed its minimum requirements," said Krsto Pejovic, the committee president. He said that although the draft law did not breach regulations of the International Labour Organisation (ILO) and was aimed at harmonising Montenegrin regulations with those of the European Union the latter were not adjusted to the situation in Montenegro. He said Montenegro could not afford to pay the workers# wages ensured in the European Union and that a lack of financial discipline kept state coffers empty and that an implementation of the draft law under current circumstances would make the social position of the workers difficult.
