The Government of Montenegro passed today the Decree on marking cigarettes and alcohol beverages with excise stamps, said director of Directorate of public income, Predrag Markovic. Markovic said at today’s press conference after the Government’s session, that products marked thus should soon appear in retail sale. “Cigarettes without excise stamps would be treated as illegally imported - they would be confiscated and measures against the offender would be taken,” said Markovic. He said that from August 10, the Directorate confiscated goods worth about 1.3 million DEM from 125 persons and procedures were initiated against the offenders. Seven hundred and five mandatory penalties were stated, worth about 118,000 DEM and 57 shops were closed. “In the same period, orders for payment of daily turnover worth over 117,000 DEM were given. Seventy three requests for initiation of the legal procedure have been directed – 41 for violation procedure and 35 for trade offence,” said Markovic.
