Bar (MINA-BUSINESS) - Participants in a seminar on the protection of consumer rights said on Friday that it was important to pass a law as quickly as possible and enable its efficient implementation. Consumer councils in all developed countries act as independent institutions. In Montenegro, such an institution will be part of the trade ministry. Trade Ministry representative Radoje Tijanic said he believed a membership fee alone was insufficient to finance the protection of consumers and at least in the beginning, the new institution would require assistance from the state or the chamber of commerce. Slovenian representatives supported the idea, but Monique Courchesne from Canada said any financial dependence on the government would not allow adequate protection to consumers.
