ISSP: Unemployment significantly below the official rate
Podgorica (MINA-BUSINESS) – The unemployment rate in Montenegro fell between May and September last year from 24.2 to 24.1 percent and is 50 percent lower than the figures shown by the official statistics, researchers of the Institute for Strategic Studies and Forecasts (ISSP) from Podgorica said. A poll among 2,000 randomly chosen households in 12 Montenegrin municipalities in 2001 showed that women outnumbered men on the list of unemployed persons. Women were mainly active in trade, manufacturing and food distribution. Last September, an average household income was 175.7 euros or three percent more than in May. Personal income of individuals working in the black economy sector was 10.5 percent higher than of those employed legally. At the same time, the number of persons having a second job has risen from 4.0 percent in May to 12.1 percent in September.
