Podgorica (MINA-BUSINESS) - There are no obstacles to Yugoslav dinar quoting on exchange lists in Montenegro if the external convertibility of the currency has been declared, Montenegrin Finance Minister Miroslav Ivanisevic told IN television on Wednesday evening. "We are certainly all happy that the dinar is convertible. If it were not convertible it could not find a place on exchange lists in Montenegro. I am sure that there will be no problem to exchange the dinar for the euro, if it is externally convertible," he said. Serbian Finance Minister Bozidar Djelic said the dinar had not been declared fully convertible but added that the decision on its convertibility was not a political one. "The dinar is still not convertible in the same way as the U.S. dollar, nor is its convertibility in so called financial transactions, complete. It is not, however, a coincidence that the convertibility was announced together with the approval of a new three-year agreement from the International Monetary Fund. We now have 829 million dollars behind the Yugoslav central bank, i.e. Serbia, to defend the dinar and to cover any balance of payment crisis," he said.
