No Surplus of Euros in the Commercial Banks

No Surplus of Euros in the Commercial Banks
Podgorica, (Montena-business) – There is a big interest in Montenegro for conversion of DEM into euro, so the commercial banks need bigger quantities of euro than those quantities delivered by the Bureau for Payments and the CBMN. Montena-business was informed by Podgoricka Bank and Montenegrin Commercial Bank that all delivered quantities of euro were converted and that the citizens, besides the cash conversion, are interested also in money conversion trough bank accounts. Director of the Sector for Transactions for Citizens in Podgoricka Bank, Djordje Djurisic reported that by today the citizens from Podgorica, Kolasin, Bar and Danilovgrad converted a total amount of 3,68 million euro at the Bank’s branches in these towns. He said that about 1,5 million of euros had been delivered at 3 p.m., but because of the planned reduction of electrical energy offer, conversion of this sum would start tomorrow. “Demand for euro is high and we need bigger quantities than those which were being delivered by the Bureau. Yesterday we got 420,000 euros for the Bank’s branch in Podgorica” said Djurisic. The crowds at the counters in Podgoricka Bank, Djurisic explained as citizens’ interest in money conversion and he added that the work in the Bank is made difficult by 4 hours electricity reductions. During the restrictions the Bank’s computer centre and all the terminals are switched off. “Every quantity above DEM 10,000, which the citizens depose at the Bank’s accounts is automatically converted into euro, and when the owner of the account wants to take out that money he must report it on time to the Bank” said Djurisic. The manager of the Montenegrin Commercial Bank, Aleksandra Popovic said that by today in this bank it was converted more than 3,5 million euro. She added that there is a big interest for conversion and saving in this Bank, and that there are some savings in euro as well. Full counters at the Montenegrin Commercial Bank confirm the big interest for conversion. “There is an interest for conversion of different amounts up to DEM 10,000, which is the limit that citizens can convert in the commercial banks without opening an account” claims Popovic. af/bd
