“Montenegro is introducing new laws, creating new market system and is looking for foreign investors that can aid in developing our state as much as possible. Their capital will be safe here,” said president of the Republic of Montenegro Milo Djukanovic in his interview for World Investment News, publicized by American business magazine “Forbs” and Asian business service “Far Eastern Economic Review”.
Djukanovic announced that till the end of the year 50% of public capital would be privatised. President of Montenegro stated as insignificant the debate on the issue whether Montenegro could survive as a small state.
“The size of the state is our advantage. Our ability to start the critical energy necessary for implementation of reforms would decide whether we would use that advantage or not,” said Djukanovic.
He said that Montenegro had economic potential not only to survive, but to live well.
“I know about many small states, and those smaller than Montenegro, which are economically vital and have high life standard, such as Luxembourg. Our condition is to build a new market system with efficient institutions and to build concept of open economy without any stipulations,” said Djukanovic in his interview, publicizes by the Montena-business agency.
Djukanovic claims that political stability is extremely important for return of foreign capital into the state and the region and that the politics that Montenegro realizes is the politics of stability, with intention to attract foreign investors and to give guarantees for invested capital.
When asked what were the visions of modernization of economic reforms in Montenegro, Djukanovic emphasized necessity of implementation of the privatisation process without scandals, conclusion of the mass voucher privatisation and privatisation of big companies.
“It is very important, regarding the region we live in, that privatisation in Montenegro is free of scandals, since we rely on experts from Europe and USA and we respect all phases and principles of transparency of privatisation. We are also realizing the process of mass voucher privatisation this year. Besides, we have begun the process of privatisation of big national companies, such as Telekom, Tobacco Industry, Jugopetrol and all that through international tender. Till the end of the year we shall privatise more than 50% of the state capital,” states Djukanovic in his interview for the World Investment News.
