Niksic (MINA-BUSINESS) - President of the Trebjesa brewery striking committee Bozidar Perovic rejected accusations of a government official that the workers were being irresponsible. Perovic said that Branko Vujovic, who heads the Economic Restructuring Agency, had given no argument to his claim while the workers were dealing with facts. He said that when the brewery was privatised in 1997 it had 546 workers and wages were 628 German marks (321 euros) and almost 400 hectolitres of beer were sold. The wages in 1998 had dropped to 82 euros and the factory had a bigger output, he said adding that the workers had only gained the present wages of 400 euros through two strikes and a lot of overtime. Out of ten conditions that the employer had to fulfil in the privatisation process, only two were met and these were not the principal ones, he said without elaborating. He said the 20-member striking committee will persevere and would not leave the premises even if it meant starving and that the workers did not fear they would lose their jobs. He said the workers wanted talks and with any good will these talks could be completed today.
