Private sector in Montenegro profitable
Podgorica (MINA-BUSINESS) - Private sector in Montenegro was the only one which posted larger profits than losses, while the public and state sector enterprises ended the last year with negative financial results, the Accounting and Payment Operations Office of the Central Bank of Montenegro said. While 10,600 enterprises in Montenegro were obliged to submit their final financial statements for the year, only 7,000 did so. Total reported loss in the economy was 147.7 million euros while reported profits stood at 81.8 million euros. Private sector enterprises accounted for 36.4 percent of the profits and 12.5 percent of the losses. Private sector enterprises posted a total profit in 2001 of 29.7 million euros, while the losses reported by the same sector stood at 18.4 million euros. Of the total number of companies, 6,300 are in the private sector or 90 percent. They employ only 22,800 workers or 26 percent of all employed persons.
