Rakcevic: Return to federation is not Montenegrin interest
Return of Montenegro to federation would mean its return to overestimated dinar, high customs rates, dominant system of state and social property, visas and aggravated flow of people and goods, said vice-president of Montenegrin government, Zarko Rakcevic. “Exchange of goods of Montenegro with Serbia is less than 10 percents of our total exchange at the moment, and it had been significantly reduced during sanctions set up by Slobodan Milosevic, when Montenegro had to turn to European market. So far, Serbia has privatised about 10 and Montenegro more than 60 percents of economy, which is why return to federation would induce recurrence of domination of state and social property,” said Rakcevic in his public statement today. He said that main strategic objective of Montenegro was participation in European and Euro-Atlantic integrations, and return to federation would not be the most efficient or the shortest way for realization of that objective. “The elementary right of Montenegrin citizens is the right to freedom and self-determination, which might look like a fragmentation from Brussels administration’s point of view, but for us, it is a matter of survival and freedom of one nation and its state,” said Rakcevic. Rakcevic said that in the last few months the Government had consistently worked on adjustment of monetary, financial, tax and customs system with directives and regulations of European Union. “Return to previous and adjustment of system with development priorities and economic structure of Serbia is not the interest of citizens of Montenegro,” said vice-president of the Government, Zarko Rakcevic.
