Podgorica (MINA-BUSINESS) - The Social-Democratic Party (SDP) of Montenegro has not yet decided whether to accept the proposal by the Centre for Transition that SDP initiates a procedure to withdraw the law on extra-profit taxation from parliamentary procedure. SDP vice-president Miodrag Ilickovic said the decision would be made during the weekend. The Centre for Transition wants SDP to withdraw the law from parliamentary procedure and return the document into a draft status to allow public debate. The parliament is due to discuss the law on Tuesday. Under the law, any income and property worth more than 35,000 euros acquired between May 1992 and October 2000 would be taxed by 20 percent. Tax exemptions are envisaged for those who purchased property during the sanctions with money earned in regular business activities. The tax ought to be paid within two years of the law taking effect.
