Serbia and Montenegro should be very happy if they pay back the total foreign debt, which was less than 7 billion USD in 1989, with 45 billion USD in the next 20 years including interest rates of the Naples agreement that relates to undeveloped states of Africa and Asia. Under normal conditions, 78 billion USD would be needed for paying back the debt, states Brussels SENSE.
The greatest creditors of Serbia and Montenegro are London and Paris Club. Debt to the London Club, that gathers the creditor banks, is 2.8 billion USD.
Both republics hope that promised reprogramming of the debt of about 4.6 billion USD to the Paris Club would occur – however real American aid is still far away, states the agency.
Paris Club has previously reprogrammed 75% of Polish debt and 85% of the debt of Bosnia and Herzegovina for political reasons.
