Shipyard: An Ambitious Plan in Conditions of Recession
Podgorica, (Montena-business) – This year’s plan of the ‘Jadransko Brodogradiliste’ Shipyard Company is to increase its production and total income, even though there is a recession at the world market, said Mr Stanko Zlokovic, the company’s general director. He said that last year the Shipyard had increased turnover by 40% comparing to the result in 2000, and that total income last year was DEM 24 million. “Because of investments in regular reparations and revitalisation of capacities, the profit for last year will be minimal, but the business is stabile” claims Mr Zlokovic. “We expect an increase in the total income by 10% this year. With long-term credit or by getting new capital from foreign partners we will provide about US$ 10 million for revitalisation and modernisation of the Shipyard, for buying tools and equipments, in order to increase our competitive level at the world shipbuilding market, which is in recession, after the terrorist attacks on USA” said Mr Zlokovic. He said that the recession at the world market resulted in low prices of transport and ships, so the shipyard companies will have less to do this year. Mr Zlokovic said that the foreign partners expected the legal status for investments in Montenegro solved, which is a necessary condition for development, modernisation and new working places in the Shipyard. af/bd
