Podgorica, (MINA) – The UNESCO status of sites in Montenegro will not be jeopardized, said Prime Minister Milojko Spajic, as he takes over as chair of the National Commission for UNESCO.
As decided at the Government session on Thursday, Spajic will chair the Commission, which is tasked to provide over the next six months the conditions for parts of Montenegrin cultural heritage to retain their UNESCO status.
Spajic wrote in a social media post that Kotor, Kotor Fortress, Durmitor National Park and the medieval tombstones (stećci) in Zabljak and Pluzine will remain part of the most valuable natural and cultural-historical world treasures.
“The UNESCO status of these sites will not be questioned. It is our recognition, but also a great development opportunity”, said Spajic.
