Bar, (MINA-BUSINESS) – The European Dockworkers Council (EDC), the umbrella organization representing dockworkers’ unions across Europe, has expressed concern about the possibility of privatization, sale, concession, or transfer of strategic control over the Port of Bar.
Representative unions at the Port of Bar stated that the EDC has formally addressed both the Government of Montenegro and the Delegation of the European Union to Montenegro regarding the Memorandum of Understanding signed with Abu Dhabi Ports and potential actions concerning the future status of the Port of Bar.
“In its letters, the EDC expressed concern that there could be privatization, sale, concession, or transfer of strategic control over the Port of Bar, emphasizing that it is one of Montenegro’s most important strategic assets,” they stated in a press release.
The European Dockworkers Council also recalled that it had previously supported efforts to keep the Port of Bar state-owned and continues to believe that any decision regarding its future must be made transparently, in accordance with the law, and with the full participation of employee representatives.
