Podgorica, (Montena-business) – The General Strike of 80% of Montenegrin educational workers will continue even after today’s negotiations between the strikers’ representatives and the Ministry of Education, and the Prime Minister, Fillip Vujanovic.
The representatives of the Striking Board said at today’s press conference, that it had been agreed with the Government’s representatives to form the second team that would be solving problems of educational workers related to building new apartments for them.
“It was agreed that in the next 2 months, the difference based on increase of the minimum salary for last 3 months of last year will be paid, and it was suggested that 4 delayed payments will be paid to workers by the end of the school year, and 2 other payments by the end of this month” said the representatives of Striking Board.
Educational CITUM has decided not to give up its requests for increasing working coefficients to 30%, even though the Government suggested that the coefficients should be the most 18%. The CITUM’s representatives claim that it would be only 5% increase, because it included last year’s increase of minimum salary to DEM 90.
“The negotiations with the Ministry of Education will be prolonged until the end of January, and then we together will inform the Prime Minister about the results of the negotiations. It could bring solutions for the Fund for Building Apartments and for coefficients” says educational CITUM.
As it was said, the second half of school year will start on time, but with reduced class hour’s duration. As the Law on Strike doesn’t say what minimum process of work during a protest is, and the Government also didn’t define it, CITUM’s representatives decided that its organisations on strike would give a final word about the proposal of Ministry of Education related to that the pupils’ grades for the half-year period should be finished.
“We are satisfied with the terms and ways of solving our requests, and with the results of today’s negotiations. CITUM will not demand that the Minister of education resign, because CITUM was not the one who elected the Minister” it was said at the press conference.
The General Strike of educational workers started on 9 January, and by class hour’s reduction employees demand change and respect of the collective contract, increase of coefficients and paying of delayed salaries.
The president of Cultural CITUM, Ljubica Barac Vujovic, also supported the protest of educational workers.
“At the meeting, which was held on Friday, Cultural CITUM concluded that all the requests of educational workers were identical to ours, so we will consider the possibility to join the protest” said Barac Vujovic.
