Bar (MINA-BUSINESS) – Prekookeanska plovidba shipper from Bar said on Monday its turnover in the first five months of 2002 rose 40 percent compared to the same period last year. Director of Prekookeanska#s department for passenger and cargo transport and agent activities Rade Radoman told Mina-business that ferry Sveti Stefan shipped between January and May 13,000 passengers, 2,800 passenger cars, more than 1,600 trucks and trailers. Another ferry shipped in the same period 2,500 passengers, more than 500 passenger cars and 950 trucks. Radoman said the introduction of a new shipper from Greece to service the route Bar-Bari-Bar, would jeopardize the position of Prekookeanska. "We are not against a fair competition nor are we asking to hold a monopoly over this route, but nowhere else in the world could it happen that one shipper develops the route and when the time comes to reap profits someone else steps in," Radoman said. The company plans to buy a new ship by the year end to sail to Italy.
