Vukotic: No interest in Telecom - a lesson for Montenegro
Podgorica, (Montena-business) -"Indifference of foreign companies and not receiving even one offer on the tender for Montenegrin Telecom is not a #catastrophe# but it is a warning for Montenegro" said Veselin Vukotic, vice-president of the Privatisation Council. "Maybe we had great expectations, or the tender#s conditions were too high and unacceptable for potential buyers. It is possible that we overvalued ourselves, but we can not say that the Telecom is worthless because of that" Vukotic said to Montena-business. Vukotic announced that all details related to the Telecom would be corrected at the end of the business year. "New financial results will be adapted to the estimated value of Telecom. Maybe that#s better than to be in a situation to negotiate with only one investor. It is not a catastrophe, but it is a lesson that we should learn in order to make a Montenegrin climate more interesting for the investors" said Vukotic. In his opinion it#s not #apocalypse# that Telecom will be sold in July, and not in December. Privatisation, as he said, is not the process of forcing somebody to buy a company. "The majority of public persons in Montenegro think the process of privatisation goes very slow. When a tender is opened no one can force anyone to buy a company in order to make people satisfied with a quick job. That#s wrong logic because it means that we should force somebody to invest money and to solve our problems" said Vukotic. The task for Montenegro is to create a political climate, which should be accepted by investors, claims Vukotic, adding that watching only one meeting of the Montenegrin parliament would make potential investors indifferent to invest in some Montenegrin company. kd / bd
