Bozovic: Amendments to anti-corruption law strengthen preventive mechanisms and transparency

Podgorica, (MINA) – The proposed amendments to the Law on the Prevention of Corruption further strengthen preventive mechanisms for combating this occurrence and improve transparency in procedures that carry an increased risk of corrupt practices, Minister of Justice Bojan Bozovic said.

Speaking in the Parliament of Montenegro, presenting the proposed amendments, he said that the amendments are less complex and more limited in scope compared to the reforms that the Ministry of Justice is currently aligning with the European Commission (EC).

Bozovic said that the Ministry expects to soon receive positive opinions from the EC on the remaining part of the Law on Prevention of Corruption, as well as on the Law on Protection of Whistleblowers.

“I believe that during this week or next we will receive positive opinions for the rest of the Law on Prevention of Corruption, which is currently in Brussels, as well as for the Law on Protection of Whistleblowers. In this way, we will have a comprehensive framework for reform in the fight against corruption”, said Bozovic.

The proposed changes, according to him, expand the list of persons required to submit declarations on income and assets.

Democratic Party of Socialists MP Jevto Erakovic said that the problem of the fight against corruption in Montenegro is not only in legal solutions, but above all in the lack of accountability and the absence of concrete results.
