HRA: SPO must urgently investigate alleged illegal activities in MUP, police and CEDIS

Podgorica, (MINA) – The Human Rights Action (HRA) has urged the Special State Prosecutor’s Office (SPO) to urgently and thoroughly investigate allegations of illegal activities in the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MUP), the Police Administration and the Montenegrin Electricity Distribution System (CEDIS), and to inform the public about the results of the proceedings.

The HRA recalls that lawyer Veselin Radulovic submitted two criminal complaints with the SPO, implicating MUP, the Police Administration, CEDIS, as well as the Democratic Montenegro officials and employees.

According to this NGO, the allegations in the criminal complaint and lawsuits point to violations of the law and abuse of authority, including the repeated illegal determination of “security inadequacies” for MUP employees, without obtaining mandatory opinion of the National Security Agency.

The HRA said that the alleged illegal activities also include targeting lawyers, journalists and human rights activists who expose irregularities, by associating them with criminal clans, thus endangering their safety, as well as dubious public procurement procedures.

“The claim that these activities were organized and coordinated within a ruling political party is particularly alarming, as it raises the possibility of the existence of elements of the criminal offense of creating a criminal organization”, the HRA warned.

They expressed expectation that the SPO would urgently and thoroughly investigate all reported cases and inform the public about the results of the proceedings.
