Podgorica, (MINA) – President of Montenegro, Jakov Milatovic, has called on the competent institutions to, through the EU and bilateral cooperation mechanisms, request international assistance in combating wildfires active across Montenegro.

“From Lustica, Lovcen and Cemovski polje, to Kuci and Bratonozici, Piva and Durmitor – our firefighters and members of the Montenegrin Army are making superhuman efforts in the fight against fires”, Milatovic wrote on the X social network.

According to him, wind is complicating firefighting efforts, and despite the Government’s earlier promises, the necessary aerial support is still lacking.

“I call on the competent institutions to request international assistance – through EU and bilateral cooperation mechanisms. Our people on the ground deserve it”, said Milatovic.
