Mugosa elected Constitutional Court judge, Krstonijevic fails to secure support in first round

Podgorica, (MINA) – The Parliament elected Nikola Mugosa as a Constitutional Court judge on Wednesday, while Predrag Krstonijevic failed to secure the required support in the first round of voting.
Mugosa was nominated for this position by the Constitutional Committee, while Krstonijevic was nominated by President Jakov Milatovic.
A two-thirds majority, or at least 54 votes, is required to elect a Constitutional Court judge in the first round of voting.
Of the 65 MPs, 61 voted in favor of Mugosa’s election, while four abstained.
Krstonijevic received the support by 25 out of 45 MPs who voted, while 20 abstained.
Parliament Speaker Andrija Mandic stated that Krstonijevic was not elected in the first round and added that the MPs would vote again of his candidacy no sooner than 30 days from now.
In the second round of vote, a three-fifths majority, or at least 49 votes, is required for the election of a Constitutional Court judge.
