Simun: We are setting foundation for a sustainable and high-quality healthcare system

Podgorica, (MINA) – Montenegro’s healthcare system is better prepared to respond to challenges today than it was in previous years, Minister of Health Vojislav Simun said, adding that the ministry’s focus is on creating the foundation for a sustainable and high-quality healthcare system for future generations.

Responding to MPs’ questions during a special Parliament session, Simun said that the challenges in the Montenegrin healthsystem have not disappeared, but that they are continuously working on resolving them.

Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS) MP Jevto Erakovic asked Simun whether, as a citizen, he would be satisfied with the healthcare services provided by the system he manages.

Simun said that the healthcare system in Montenegro is being strengthened through improvements in infrastructure and equipment, as well as through the adoption of laws, strategies and protocols.

“The Ministry of Health, in the previous two and a half years, introduced new and modern legislation that laid the foundation for more efficient and better healthcare”, said Simun.

New Serbian Democracy MP Bojana Pican asked Simun about the importance of the construction of the University Clinical Center in Podgorica.

Simun said that it is one of the major infrastructure projects in the history of Montenegro’s healthcare, adding that the country will receive the largest hospital in 50 years.

“The location was selected within the medical district and apposite the KCCG, because these two institutions will rely on each other”, said Simun.

He added that he is proud of the efforts invested by the entire Government in the process of preparation and realization of this project.

In his written response prior to the parliament session, Simun stated that the completion of the main project is expected by the end of this year, while the start of preparatory works is planned for the beginning of next year.

“Construction is expected to begin in January 2028. The estimated deadline for the completion is 2031, providing that all administrative, financial and contractual procedures proceed as planned”, the response concluded.
