Two new transformers for a more stable power system

Two new transformers for a more stable power system

Podgorica, (MINA-BUSINESS) – The Montenegrin Electricity Transmission System (CGES) will install new transformers, worth €4.5 million, at substations in Podgorica and Mojkovac, which is expected to improve electricity supply reliability, modernize the grid, and enhance system stability.

Chief Testing Engineer at CGES Olivera Colakovic said that the €4.5 million investment was used to procure two new 150-megavolt-ampere (MVA) power autotransformers intended to replace aging transformer units at the Podgorica 1 and Mojkovac substations.

“After nearly three years of continuous work, from preparing technical specifications, monitoring the public procurement process, overseeing manufacturing, quality control, intermediate inspections, factory acceptance testing, and managing the extremely challenging transportation process, the transformers have finally arrived at their installation sites, and installation is currently underway,” Colakovic said at the Podgorica 1 substation, where one of the transformers is being installed.

While presenting the investment, Colakovic also took the opportunity to congratulate all her female colleagues on International Women in Engineering Day, traditionally celebrated today, emphasizing that women’s contribution to the profession is immeasurable and represents an important part of every company’s success.

“At CGES, we are especially proud that 45 female engineers work within the company. Through their daily commitment, professionalism, and responsibility, they contribute to the implementation of major projects and help improve our system. That is why it gives me particular pleasure that today, on our day, we are presenting a very significant investment – the procurement of two new transformers – which is another important step toward a more reliable, stable, and modern power system in Montenegro,” Colakovic told the Mina-business agency.

According to Colakovic, this project demonstrates CGES’s ongoing commitment to improving the electricity system and modernizing the transmission network.
