War-time slave workers to receive up to 15,000 DEM

War-time slave workers to receive up to 15,000 DEM
In line with the state law passed in August last year, the Government of FR Germany and its companies provided 10 billion DEM for the payment of reparation to former slave and enforced workers, as well as to certain categories of victims of the nazi injustices made during the First World War. Seven organizations were appointed for the purpose of collecting the data and requests of such persons. One of them is the International Migration Organization (IMO), which is, as it was announced at the press conference, to pay 520 million DEM to the victims, in line with the decision of the German Government. "The financial compensation shall be paid to non-Jew population and victims from the rest of the world," said Vito de Luca, coordinator of that organization. De Luca said that more than a thousand requests for reparation was expected only from Montenegro. The money is to be distributed according to the following criteria: the slave workers that were imprisoned in concentration camps or ghettos would receive up to 15,000 DEM. The same amount can be allotted to persons who were exposed to medicine experiments during the period of nazism, or persons with ruined health that were, as children, placed in houses for children - victims of enforced or slave work. "Persons that were deported to Germany and forced to work in companies or public sector shall receive the amount of up to 5,000 DEM," emphasized De Luca. The parents of children that died during their accommodation in houses for children of enforced or slave workers would receive the reparation of up to 15,000 DEM. The deadline for submitting the requests for reparation is August 11, and their examination and verification will be done at the centre of IMO, in Geneva.
