Rounding up of prices in April will increase inflation

Rounding up of prices in April will increase inflation
When Euro becomes the only means of payment in Montenegro, after 31 March, prices will significantly increase due to rounding up, has been predicted by the Institute for strategic studies and prognosis (ISSP). Researchers of the Institute estimate that introduction of Euro has not so far cause any more significant increase of prices since they have not been rounded up as it was expected and they add that inflation in January was by 1,3 % lower then in December. Rounding up means fro example prices of 1 EUR to be rounded up to 2 DM even though the official exchange rate is 1,95583 DM. Institute claims that there have been exceptions from rounding up giving as an example hotel Crna Gora from Podgroica where prices of certain drinks and food remained nominally the same but they have been noted in EUR instead of DM so realistically they increased by almost two times. Researches showed that last years# inflation was not consequence of demand factor since the prices increased faster then salaries in this period. Average salary in December was by 10% higher then in the same month of 2000. Minimal price of work increased in October by 12,5% but this difference had not been paid until January so the salaries and pensions remained the same till the end of year", reminds the ISSP. Inflation was 26,6% last year and expenses of living were by 27,8% higher. Average monthly increase of wholesales prices in this period was 2% and expenses of living 2,1%. Republic Statistics Bureau announced in January that last year#s inflation was about 23 %. "In the fourth quarter of last year inflation was 22,3% and one of the reasons was increase of demands because of holidays, that is buying of food, clothes and traveling as well as introduction of EUR and getting rid of German DM through expenditure", was emphasized in research. According to ISSP researchers Main reason of inflation increase during last year was increase of price of services by almost 43%. The prices that increased most were the prices of services in the sphere of culture - 41% - traffic and public utilities - 38% - and accommodation and electricity - 37%. Researchers remind that even the controlled prices of electricity, naphtha and its derivatives and public utility services increased. Price of electrical energy was by 49,5% higher then in November. Price of naphtha and derivatives was during last year increased by almost 14% at the state gas stations and by 15% at private gas station. Prices of heating and lighting increased by almost 40%, prices of accommodation by 18%, water by almost 17%, waste waters by over 17% and trash by over 33%. "As far as the products the prices of which are not controlled are concerned, the price of traveling increased the most due to increase of price of naphtha and its derivatives, then prices of domestic cigarettes, fresh and processed meet and fish because of holidays and bigger demand", was stated in the research.
