Montenegro’s economy doing well despite volatile times
Podgorica, (MINA-BUSINESS) – According to Executive Director of the Belgian-Dutch Constituency at the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Jeroen Clicq, Montenegro’s economy is performing quite well despite global uncertainty, thanks to sound policies that are driving economic growth.
“I think the economy is really doing well. If you look at the level of uncertainty that exists in the world, look at the region, and then at Montenegro, you see that Montenegro stands out,” said Clicq at a working breakfast with Montenegrin journalists the Central Bank of Montenegro (CBCG) organized on the occasion of his visit to Montenegro.
He believes that the Montenegrin economy is currently strong and advancing, largely due to sound policies.
“Good policies bring economic growth, but there is still a lot of potential for further progress,” added Clicq.
CBCG Governor Irena Radovic said that Clicq’s visit comes at a time when Montenegro is making an important reform step, and when, as early as this year, it will operationally enter the European financial infrastructure through its first SEPA transactions, giving Montenegrin citizens the same conditions as EU citizens.
“As of 7 October, the first SEPA transactions will begin in Montenegro. This is a major step forward,” said Radovic, adding that it will benefit both businesses and citizens, while boosting competitiveness of the economy.
