Podgorica, (MINA) – UNESCO has designated the Skadar Lake National Park one of the 14 new biosphere reserves.
As stated by this international organization, biosphere reserves prove that people and nature can live in harmony – through the protection of biodiversity, support for sustainable development and strengthening of local communities.
“This year also brings several significant milestones: three countries welcome their first biosphere reserves: Montenegro, Timor-Leste and Aruba, which sees its entire territory designated as such”, UNESCO said.
The Ministry of Ecology, Sustainable Development and Development of the North (MERS) said that they welcome with great pride the news that UNESCO included the Skadar Lake Watershed in the World Network of Biosphere Reserves.
“This is a historic moment for Montenegro and another strong confirmation that the wealth of our nature is recognized and appreciated at the highest international level”, MERS said in a post on the X network.
