Banking sector’s stability and resilience affirmed
- Washington, D.C., (MINA-BUSINESS) – Deputy Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) Bo Li stated that that the findings of the most recent Article IV Mission confirmed the stability and resilience of the banking sector and the effectiveness of the Central Bank’s measures aimed at preserving financial stability.

He met with the CBCG Governor Irena Radovic and Minister of Finance Novica Vukovic during the Annual Meetings of the World Bank (WB) and the IMF, held in Washington, D.C.
“The meeting reaffirmed the excellent cooperation between Montenegro and the IMF and the open and constructive dialogue, which is of particular importance for smaller member countries such as Montenegro,” the CBCG and the Ministry of Finance stated in a press release.
Radovic expressed appreciation for the IMF’s continuous support and numerous technical assistance programmes that contributed to strengthening the CBCG’s institutional and supervisory capacities.
In this context, she highlighted recent projects implemented with IMF support, including the development of the CBCG Communication Strategy, the Central Bank Independence Index, balance sheet resilience testing, and the Transparency Code Review.
The meeting also addressed opportunities to expand support to the area of Anti-Money Laundering and Combating the Financing of Terrorism (AML/CFT), and the development and automation of a new macroeconomic model for Montenegro.
Vukovic stated that the results show that Montenegro’s economic policies are effective and focused on long-term development.
He added that Montenegro’s economy continues to strengthen, living standards are rising, unemployment is at a record low, and the country’s path towards the European Union is firmly established.
