Podgorica, (MINA) – The Government and the parliamentary majority withdrew from the parliamentary procedure the draft laws on the National Security Agency (ANB) and internal affairs.
Parliament Speaker Andrija Mandic said that while the parliamentary majority supports those laws, they found that the proposals were not well communicated to the public.
“We will make an effort to better communicate with the public and our international partners before returning these acts to procedure”, Mandic said.
He said that they should review relations with colleagues from the Europe Now Movement and all the partnerships they have within the coalition.
Several NGOs and opposition representatives urged the Government to withdraw the proposed ANB law from the parliamentary procedure and open space for expert and public discussion before the fall session of the Parliament.
The NGO sector warned that this law poses an extreme risk to the human rights and that it needs to be aligned with international human rights standards.
The European Commission (EC) stated previously that the EU expected Montenegro to clarify the purpose and scope of the proposed amendments to the Law on ANB and enable the EC to conduct a thorough analysis, before continuing the legislative process.
