Infrastructure improvement a prerequisite for year-round tourism

Infrastructure improvement a prerequisite for year-round tourism

Budva, (MINA-BUSINESS) – It was concluded at a discussion panel during the Montenegro 2025 Economic Conference organized by the Chamber of Commerce (PKCG) in Budva that tourism is a pillar of Montenegro’s economy and must be developed smarter and more sustainably.

At the panel titled “Tourism 365”, speakers noted that this requires extending the season, diversifying the offering, and creating stronger connections between tourism and other sectors.

Tourism and sustainable development consultant Snjezana Derviskadic, who moderated the panel, highlighted the importance of tourism as a strategic branch of Montenegro’s economy, noting that the goal is to identify the core challenges of modern tourism and find sustainable solutions that contribute to the sector’s stable development.

According to a press release from PKCG, she said that it is our responsibility to understand these changes and turn them into opportunities, as the future of tourism depends on our readiness to adapt.

Partner at Horwat HTL and a member of the expert team that worked on Montenegro’s Spatial Plan Matko Marohnic said the aim was to create a Spatial Plan that would enable year-round, sustainable tourism while respecting the authenticity of each region.

“The Plan provides a framework, abnd we now we need to move to space programming,” Marohnic said.

He added that destinations characterized by strong seasonality share the challenge of either lacking infrastructure or having non-competitive existing infrastructure.

“Across the entire Adriatic-Ionian region, there is a lack of infrastructure to support year-round tourism,” Marohnic concluded.
