Cetinje, (MINA) – France will continue to support Montenegro in the final phase of its EU accession process, French President Emmanuel Macron said, adding that he believes in a united Europe.
Macron made this remark in Cetinje, following a meeting with his Montenegrin counterpart Jakov Milatovic, during his first official visit to Montenegro.

“France stands by Montenegro and will continue to support it in the final phase of the EU accession process”, Macron said.
According to him, Montenegro has done an excellent job in the negotiations.
“You have implemented significant reforms, completed work in many chapters and made decisive progress”, Macron said.
He pointed out that he believes in the unification of Europe, adding that it is a great opportunity for the Western Balkans region and entire Europe.
Macron said that enlargement is important for the entire Western Balkans region, but that it is equally important to recognize the merits of each candidate country individually.
Asked whether the elections in France and other member states could affect Montenegro’s membership prospects, Macron said that it is important for Montenegro to continue reforms and dialogue with all political actors in EU member states.
“I cannot predict the outcome of the election, but it is important that you believe in yourself”, Macron said.
Milatovic stated that the golden era of the partnership between Montenegro and France is underway.
“The strategic partnership we have built is not only a political message, but also a framework for concrete projects that are important for our citizens”, said Milatovic.
He said that Montenegro knows where it belongs.
“It belongs to Europe, it belongs to the community of free, democratic and responsible states”, said Milatovic.
