Montenegro fulfills obligations, awaits evaluation of European Commission and EU members

Podgorica, (MINA) - Montenegro has completed its obligations under five negotiation chapters expected to be closed by the end of the year, and now awaits the evaluation of the European Commission and EU member states, the Ministry of European Affairs (MEA) said.

This Ministry expects that the results of the work of the Government and competent institutions will be clearly recognized.

The MEA told Vijesti daily that they believe that Montenegro is well on its way to closing the chapters “on which it has been working intensively and with dedication throughout this year” at the upcoming EU Intergovernmental Conference.

These are chapters 3 (Right of establishment and freedom to provide services), 4 (Free movement of capital), 6 (Company law), 11 (Agriculture and rural development) and 13 (Fisheries).

When asked about Chapter 31 (Foreign, Security and Defense Policy), which had been blocked by Croatia late last year, MEA answered that the process is currently in the phase of political consultations with Croatia and that the outcome will depend on Croatia’s assessment.

They expect an Intergovernmental Conference in mid-December, in line with the dynamics of the Danish Presidency of the Council of the EU.

The Ministry of European Affairs added that, together with all relevant ministries and institutions that are responsible for these chapters, they have undertaken all activities necessary to fully implement the obligations.
