Podgorica, (MINA-BUSINESS) – According to the Ministry of European Affairs, Montenegro is expected to provisionally close Chapter 8 – Competition Policy at the Intergovernmental Conference in July, marking another important step on its path toward membership in the European Union.
As explained by the Ministry, Chapter 8 covers competition policy and state aid control, areas designed to ensure that all market players operate under equal rules and to prevent practices that distort fair competition.
This means that all companies should have equal conditions for doing business and succeed in the marketplace through quality, innovation, and strong ideas.
Competition policy ensures that the state protects the market from agreements that restrict competition, such as price-fixing, the creation of monopolies, or the abuse of a dominant market position by individual companies.
“It also includes oversight of major corporate mergers to ensure they do not reduce consumer choice or limit opportunities for other market players,” the Ministry said in a press release.
