Podgorica, (MINA-BUSINESS) – The Ministry of European Affairs announced that Montenegro will close Chapter 29 – Customs Union at the upcoming Intergovernmental Conference, scheduled to take place in July.
The EU Customs Union, established in 1968, constitutes one of the foundations of European economic integration, enabling the free flow of goods, consumer protection, and the competitiveness of the European economy on the global market.
The main objectives within this chapter are related to strengthening economic relations among member states, developing trade activities, and protecting society.
“Customs administrations are responsible for supervising the Union’s internal market, protecting the Union’s and member states’ financial and economic interests, combating fraud and protecting intellectual property rights, strengthening safety and security, protecting citizens and the environment, improving the administrative capacities of customs administrations, and enhancing competitiveness,” the Ministry said in a press release.
These objectives have been achieved through the alignment of customs legislation, harmonization of customs procedures, development of digital customs systems, strengthening of administrative capacities, and effective and efficient controls.
