Strengthening social cohesion and media literacy against misinformation

Strengthening social cohesion and media literacy against misinformation

Podgorica, (MINA) – The long-term fight against misinformation is only possible through strengthening social cohesion and improving media literacy, said President of Montenegroc Jakov Milatovic at the Paris Peace Forum.

Speaking at the panel “Cyber peace in a fragmented world: strengthening digital resilience through international cooperation”, Milatovic recalled that in 2022, Montenegro was the target of a major cyberattack that paralyzed part of the public administration and key public services.

“That was when we realized that wars are also fought in the digital space”, said Milatovic, emphasizing that international cooperation was crucial.

He emphasized that, following the attack, Montenegro systematically worked to strengthen institutional capacities and adopt strategic documents, including the Counter Hybrid Threats Strategy, as well as the establishment of the Interdepartmental Commission for Combating Hybrid Threats.

Milatovic stressed the importance of cooperation with Interpol and Europol, stating that the international police operation to dismantle the Sky / ECC network proved that no country can tackle global crime alone.

Speaking about the role of the Western Balkans Regional Cyber Capacity Center (WB3C) based in Podgorica, co-founded by Montenegro, France and Slovenia, Milatovic pointed out that the Center has become a “true pillar of regional resilience”.
