Podgorica, (MINA) - The Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS) will not allow the collapse of the civil, secular and anti-fascist identity of Montenegro, nor any changes to its state character, said leader of that party, Danijel Zivkovic, during a meeting with the ambassadors of the Quint countries and Head of the EU Delegation in Montenegro, Johann Sattler.
According to a DPS’s press release, the meeting was an opportunity for the participants to exchange views on key political and social issues, reaffirming a shared commitment to democratic dialogue, stability and the European future of Montenegro.
Zivkovic said that the meeting is a good opportunity to inform international partners about the positions and actions of DPS, especially in light of the current political situation in the country.
He reiterated DPS’ clear commitment to preserving an independent, civil and anti-fascist Montenegro, and highlighted DPS’s constructive role in key socio-political processes, especially when it comes to issues of essential importance for Montenegro’s EU integration process.
Speaking about the actions of the current parliamentary majority, Zivkovic expressed concern about the state of society, especially in the security sector.
He assessed two aspects as particularly problematic – the attempt to revise history and the attitude of the Government towards the Parliament, which, as she stated, undermines the role of the highest legislative body.
“The DPS will not allow the collapse of Montenegro’s fundamental values – its civil, secular and anti-fascist identity - nor will it allow changes to its state character”, emphasized Zivkovic.
The press release states that the Quint ambassadors and Sattler welcomed the contribution of DPS in the electoral reform process and assessed it as an important step on the European path.
They also stressed the importance of reaching a political consensus on the country’s most important issues and emphasized the role of the opposition in that process.
