Podgorica, (MINA) – In the first six months of this year, 18 war crimes cases were opened by the Special State Prosecutor’s Office (SDT), six of which have been completed, the Supreme State Prosecutor’s Office (VDT) announced.
The VDT said that during that period, the State Prosecutor’s Office carried out 96.3 percent of the activities outlined in the Strategy for the Investigation of War Crimes 2024-2027, which, as they stated, confirms the institutional commitment to the prosecution of war crimes and the strengthening of judicial cooperation in the region.
“During the reporting period, 18 war crimes cases were initiated by the SDT, of which 12 are ongoing, and six cases have been completed”, the press release said.
It is emphasized that the proactive approach to the war crimes prosecution, based on the Strategy for the Investigation of War Crimes adopted by the VDT, is also recognized by international partners.
The VDT also recalled that in the latest non-paper of the European Commission on Chapters 23 and 24, it was pointed out that Montenegro, thanks to the improved proactive approach of the prosecutorial authorities, continues to build a credible and sustainable record in research, prosecution and war crimes trial, including high-level cases.
According to the VDT, the report on the Implementation of the War Crimes Investigation Strategy for the first two quarters of this year, adopted at a recent VDT session, details the completed activities, including the adoption of the Action Plan for the Morinj, Bukovica, Kaludjerski laz and deportation cases.
