Podgorica, (MINA-BUSINESS) – According to Social Justice Action (ASP), €2.5 billion is planned over the next ten years for the construction of additional renewable energy sources (RES) in Montenegro, but without any assessment of the impact on the budget and electricity bills.
“Over the next ten years, €2.5 billion is planned for the construction of additional RES facilities, mostly through private investments, but there is no assessment of how much this would increase electricity bills or impact the budget,” ASP stated in a press release.
ASP stated that this amount of investment in so-called additional RES facilities, namely large solar parks and wind farms, is included in the Draft National Energy and Climate Plan, which is still open for public consultation for around ten days.
The NGO added that although they it was necessary to provide impact assessments on the budget, the plan only notes that this “depends on prices and power purchase agreements awarded at auctions”.
According to the Law on Renewable Energy Sources, adopted last August, a system of so-called market premiums based on power purchase agreements awarded through public auctions was introduced.
