Podgorica, (MINA-BUSINESS) – According to the Ministry of Tourism, Montenegro has seen a significant increase in the number of tourists from markets that have so far been underrepresented but are very important for further tourism development, such as the United States, China, Azerbaijan, and Australia.
Director of the Directorate for Tourist Destination Development and Strategic Planning at the Ministry of Tourism, Olivera Blagojevic, stated that the number of tourist arrivals from traditional markets such as Israel, France, and the United Kingdom had also increased.
“Although air connectivity can always be better, we have more than 50 flight routes from Tivat and over 45 from Podgorica this year, which clearly indicates progress in this field,” Blagojevic said in a press release.
She added that there were over 130,000 tourists currently staying in Montenegro, while collective accommodation recorded growth of around four percent compared to the same period last year, and approximately 16 percent compared to the record year of 2019.
Blagojevic concluded that tourism was not only the responsibility of the Ministry of Tourism but a shared obligation of all those contributing to the development of the country’s most important economic sector.
