Government urged to stop price hikes on basic necessities and fuel

Podgorica, (MINA-BUSINESS) – Senior official of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) and European Alliance representative Cazim Lisicic has called on the Government to immediately take measures to stop price hikes and improve citizens’ living standards.

“We urge the government to halt the rise in prices of basic necessities and fuel, to assist the most vulnerable citizens through targeted subsidies, to monitor and limit the margins of retailers and importers who are exploiting the crisis to make extra profits, and to stimulate the economy so that citizens notice actual progress, not just abstract figures,” Lisicic stated in a press release.

According to him, citizens are not asking for much; they only want dignity.

“They want a state where work is valued, promises are respected, and institutions serve the people. If this Government is unable to provide that, then it is obliged to step down. Because,” Lisicic said, adding that Montenegro must belong to those who love it, not those who exploit it.

He noted that citizens were finding it increasingly difficult to make ends meet, a fact clearly confirmed by Monstat data.

Lisicic pointed out that the average inflation of 3.3 percent in the first six months of this year was more than just a figure, as it reflected a tangible decline in living standards.

“People spend more but live worse. This is not development, it is stagnation,” he concluded.
