Podgorica, (MINA-BUSINESS) – According to unofficial data from local tourist boards, there were a total of 130,620 tourists staying in Montenegro as at this past Thursday. The National Tourism Organization (NTO) also reported a slight increase in tourist tax revenue in the same period.
“As we approach the peak of the summer tourist season, current indicators from the field suggest a stable situation and the potential of this year’s summer season,” the NTO stated in a press release.
Until Wednesday, revenues from the tourist tax, specifically the portion allocated to the state budget, amounted to €880,810, reflecting a 1.75 percent increase year-on-year and a 26 percent rise compared to 2019.
The highest concentration of visitors is recorded in the coastal municipalities of Budva, Ulcinj, Herceg Novi, and Bar, which traditionally generate the greatest turnover during the high season.
“The tourist structure reflects the diversity in the markets from which Montenegro attracts tourists. While visitors from the region remain predominant, there is also a strong presence of tourists from Germany, France, the United Kingdom, Turkiye, and Poland. This confirms that Montenegro continues to be recognized and attractive in key European outbound markets,” the NTO noted.
Based on unofficial weekly data from local tourist boards, the NTO stated that the number of tourist arrivals is generally in line with last year, while tourist tax revenues show a slight increase compared to last year and significant growth compared to 2019.
“Considering the current forecasts, we hope the season will last longer and that in certain segments, we will surpass last year’s results,” the NTO added.
The NTO also stated that active efforts were underway to promote the destination and to plan for the next season, with a focus on positioning Montenegro as a year-round tourist destination.
