Podgorica, (MINA-BUSINESS) – Minister of Energy and Mining Admir Sahmanovic has said that Montenegro views the Energy Community as one of its key partners on the path to full integration into Europe’s common energy market.
He participated in an informal meeting of energy ministers from Energy Community member states, held in Athens on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the initiative that plays a crucial role in the region’s energy integration with the European Union (EU).
“It is my pleasure and privilege to speak on the occasion of the Energy Community’s 20th anniversary on behalf of Montenegro, a country that views this initiative as a strategic partner in the process of energy transition and alignment with EU legislation,” Sahmanovic said.
According to him, Montenegro made concrete and measurable progress in recent years: the Law on Renewable Energy Sources has been adopted, fully aligned with the RED II directive, along with a new Energy Law, transposing rules on the internal electricity market.
The adoption of the Law on Cross-Border Exchange of Electricity and Gas is in its final phase, and a significant number of by-laws have been enacted as part of the broader WB6 reform agenda, which is directly linked to European financial support.
“All these reforms are not just about fulfilling formal obligations, but reflect Montenegro’s clear strategic direction, seeing its energy future as part of a stable, competitive, and green investment-friendly European market,” Sahmanovic said.
He concluded that Montenegro remained a committed and reliable partner in creating a common, sustainable, and fair energy market in the region and Europe.
