Podgorica, (MINA) – The messages sent during the EU-Western Balkans Summit in Tivat represent strong encouragement and additional confirmation that the country has a real opportunity to become the next EU member state, said one of the leaders of the European Alliance, Damir Sehovic.

He pointed out that it is obvious that the enlargement policy once again occupies an important place on the European agenda, as well as that Montenegro has a historic opportunity to successfully complete the accession process.

“Those messages are a special satisfaction for the European Alliance, whose constituents are the founders of the European idea in Montenegro, and as such have represented and promoted it in periods when it was neither simple nor popular, as well as in periods when Europe itself was not ready for enlargement”, Sehovic said in a press release.

He emphasized that Montenegro’s current position should not be attributed to any individual, government, or political generation.

“EU membership will be a joint success of Montenegro, not the merit of just one political generation”, said Sehovic.

According to him, the encouraging messages from Tivat should not be a reason for complacency, but further incentive to lead the final part of the European road responsibly, wisely and with full respect for the fact that it is the most important national interest.
