Cooperation possible on Prokletije and Lake Skadar projects

Podgorica, (MINA-BUSINESS) – It was concluded at a meeting between the tourism ministers of Montenegro and Albania, Simonida Kordic  and Mirela Kumbaro Furxhi, that the two countries could cooperate on projects of mutual interest, particularly in the Prokletije region, as well as in joint activities around Lake Skadar.

The Montenegrin Ministry of Tourism stated in a press release that Kordic and Kumbaro Furxhi discussed establishing closer cooperation in the tourism sector and exchanged information about current trends in the industry, as well as priorities and plans for further development.

“Particular focus was placed on the potential for cooperation on projects of common interest, especially in the Prokletije region, with an emphasis on mountain tourism, as well as on joint activities around Lake Skadar,” the press release reads.

According to Kumbaro Furxhi, a significant number of tourists who visit Albania also visit Montenegro, and vice versa, which offers an opportunity for longer tourist stays in the region.

She added that Albanian travel agencies actively promoted tours to Montenegro, contributing to the joint promotion of the destinations.

In the context of Montenegro’s chairmanship of the UN Tourism Commission for Europe, Kordic stated that countries in the region could actively cooperate within the framework of UNWTO bodies.

The two officials agreed on the importance of further diversifying the tourism products, with special emphasis on cultural heritage and event tourism, as well as on the importance of addressing visa issues for distant markets, which would further stimulate the growth of tourist arrivals in the region.
